Competition for the Awarding of a Scholarship for a Musician – Instrumentalist

The American Foundation for Bulgaria announces a competition for the awarding of a scholarship for a musician – instrumentalist in connection with the scholarship established in 2020 in the name of Prof. Pavlina Dokovska.

The scholarship in the name of Prof. Pavlina Dokovska is open to Bulgarian instrumentalists, regardless of where they are currently residing. Candidates who have won the scholarship once are not eligible to apply for the next three years.

Applications can be made for participation in festivals, competitions, masterclasses, and various artistic projects. The scholarship does not cover studies abroad or educational expenses at educational institutions.

Candidates must specify the exact financial parameters and objectives with the relevant documents. This means providing detailed information about competitions, masterclasses, trainings, courses, recordings, travels: a precise description of the event, dates, location, price, and if possible, a link. If the event requires a preliminary round for approval, proof that it has been passed must also be provided. The committee will not consider applications lacking this information.

Candidates are divided into two age groups:

  • Group A: Musicians aged 14 to 19 years old;
  • Group B: Musicians aged 20 to 28 years old.

Candidates from Group A must submit the following documents:

  • A letter of application, free format;
  • A video recording of at least 15 minutes, including two works with different characteristics. The recording must be sent to office@afbulgaria.org;
  • The video recording must be uploaded to the YouTube platform;
  • In the top field, the candidate's name should be written in both Latin and Cyrillic;
  • In the description section, candidates must write their name in both Latin and Cyrillic again, along with the full program presented in the video as follows:
  • Author's name – Title of the work – Duration;
  • A copy of an identity document with a photo and date of birth;
  • A creative biography;
  • A current creative photograph;
  • Two recommendations;
  • Goals and aspirations the candidate plans to achieve – this is the actual project for which the application is being submitted;
  • Scanned diplomas and certificates received in the last two years;
  • Contact details – address, email, phone.

Candidates from Group B must submit the following documents:

  • A letter of application, free format;
  • A video recording of at least 30 minutes, including three works with different characteristics. The recording must be sent to office@afbulgaria.org;
  • The video recording must be uploaded to the YouTube platform;
  • In the top field, the candidate's name should be written in both Latin and Cyrillic;
  • In the description section, candidates must write their name in both Latin and Cyrillic again, along with the full program presented in the video as follows:
  • Author's name – Title of the work – Duration;
  • A copy of an identity document with a photo and date of birth;
  • A creative biography;
  • A current creative photograph;
  • Two recommendations;
  • Goals and aspirations the candidate plans to achieve – this is the actual project for which the application is being submitted;

The deadline for submitting the documents is February 20, 2025.

The scholarship is worth 5,000 US dollars and may be distributed among more than one candidate.
