The program is a joint project between the American Foundation for Bulgaria, USA and the Ministry of Education and Science, Bulgaria.

The school was established in 2005 as a result of cooperation between the Consulate General Republic in New York City and the local Bulgarian community. Its mission is to provide students education in the literature, history, and culture of Bulgaria. Students receive certificates to continue their studies in Bulgarian. The school also offers a Bulgarian language course, Folk dance, and music.
